The Week That Was

If Obama loses the election, we can look back on this last week as the week where it all blew up for him.
Unaffiliated voters, by a five-to-one margin, said the McCain ad was not racist. By a much narrower 50% to 38% margin, unaffiliateds viewed Obama’s comment as racist.
Without the post-racial politician image, without the "new kind of politician" image, Obama loses his biggest advantage. Without that, he's got to run on accomplishments and ideas. That's not how he's going to cruise to victory.

You know, other than the converted, I don't this the swing voters are paying attention yet/anymore. Either its just not on their radar, or they've tuned it out. So I'm uncertain this will have much blow back.

"As for Obama’s comment, 53% of white voters saw it as racist, as did 44% of African-Americans and 61% of all other voters."

... 44% of African-American voters... of all the numbers that were presented in linked article, that's the one that jumped out at me. That's huge.

But Kelly is right... its not even Labor Day. We'll see if this has any legs.

Neither time nor space will permit a further explanation, but I think we need a distinction between "racist" and "racial" in these polls.

I think it's "yet". We've got months before the election, and watching the candidates and their supporters badmouth each other for months at a time, with way more heat than light, is exhausting. Come October, everything will be out on the table, and those who are inclined will be able to go over who actually said/did/plans what, and decide who they actually like.

Besides, I can't commit to either of 'em until I know who their VPs are going to be. Historically, there have been pretty good odds of a VP becoming President. For various reasons, this time around I strongly suspect that we are looking at about 50/50 odds of the VP being President within a couple of years, regardless of which candidate wins.

Tim brings up a very good point. I'd love to know who they plan to have on their cabinets too!

This week, next week, sooner or later it would begin to be seen even without the help of a small boy that the Emperor Has No Clothes.
