It's Time for College Tours!

I'm taking my boy up to UC Santa Cruz and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo over the next two days to see what we think of them.

My criteria: Is the school recruited by employers?

His criteria: Is the surfing good?

Hey, he could come up to Michigan Tech!* We have the best surfing for (checks map) at least 1000 miles!

Of course, even in the summer surfers in Lake Superior only have about 20 minutes before hypothermia sets in, and the waves are actually best around November when the gales blow through and the time limit to hypothermia is more like 10 minutes, but still, it is possible to surf here!

*kidding. The tuition for students coming from out-of-state is kind of steep.

There no real choice if you want an engineering program - Cal Poly is far and above anything Santa Cruz has to offer. UCSC is still, at its heart a liberal arts school. What about UC Santa Barbara? Or for that matter our ala mater? Does he know what he wants to study? Cal State San Jose has an outstanding tech program - at least equal or better than most UC's and it only 45 minutes from great Northern California surfing beaches.
